Doing Haircuts the Right Way

Everyone knows the phrase, “A woman who cuts her hair is about to change her life, by The One & Only Coco Chanel. There are many reasons why your clients want a haircut whether it is post-break-up, to try a new look, their regular cuts, and so much more. The end goal that we can all draw from them getting their haircut, is that they want it to look good. Truth be told, they want it to look great on them. So your job is to ensure that is done to their liking. Being a barber or hairstylist is a pressure job to get the haircut done just right, so here are some tips for “Doing Haircuts the Right Way”:

Ask Them To See Their Inspiration

Your job involved knowing the trendy hairstyles. This allows you to be in the loop about what clients want and research how to achieve it. Also, clients may come with a style that you’ve never heard off which will catch you off guard. Therefore, you need to ask them to see their inspiration whether it is from TV, magazines, Pinterest and Instagram.

Provide Your Suggestions

As the stylist, you should provide suggestions on what you think about the hairstyle. You have to let them know if you think the haircut is too drastic, will not fit their face shape, isn’t in sync with their lifestyle. As a stylist, you have to let your customers what will work and what won’t/ This will allow them to consider your suggestion and hold their ground because they are committed to the style or follow your guidance because they are unsure.

Talk Them Through The Process

Many of your clients don’t understand hair lingo as well as the different techniques. So while you’re giving them the haircut they requested, ensure to talk them through the haircut. Let them know that “you’re going to shampoo”, “you’re going to add the design”, “you’re going to cut their hair”, etc.

Be Encouraging

Getting a new haircut can be scary and exciting at the same time. Most of us are a little bit unsure whenever we set foot in your chair. Therefore, you should say motivational words to lift our spirits. Let us know “that the style looks great”, “you’re going to love it”, and “it’s already looking good”. This will let us know that we’re on the same page in giving us the “Right Haircut”.
